Titanic To Be Re-Released In Theaters To Celebrate 20th Anniversary

December 19th of 2017 will mark the 20th year anniversary release of heavily laureated 1997 film ‘Titanic’ in the United States. The American epic romance-disaster film that catapulted the careers of two of Hollywood’s most beloved actors, Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet, will be making a return to the silver screen to celebrate the occasion.

This time, the film will be remastered for AMC theatres Dolby Cinemas around the U.S. that will be showing the movie for one whole week. The screening will start on December 1st and will be released in both 2D and 3D at select locations.

“We mastered a few minutes of Titanic in Dolby Vision and I was stunned. It was like seeing it for the first time. Now that the entire film has been mastered, I’m excited to share it with audiences across the U.S.,” film director, James Cameron, said in a statement.

“This is beyond 3D, beyond 70mm, it’s beyond anything you’ve seen before. The image leaps off the screen as bright and vibrant as life itself.”

This won’t be the movie’s first return to cinemas. The 3D version of the film was released back in 2012 and during that time, some inaccuracies with the star formation in the film’s skies were retouched after an astrophysicist informed Cameron of the mistake.

National Geographic will also have its ‘Titanic’ moment with James Cameron this December. They will feature an hour-long documentary exploring the film’s attention to detail and historical accuracy.

That could very well explain why 20 years after its release, the film’s brand is still going on, much like Celine Dion’s heart. They never needed sequels or prequels, which in this case, are ultimately impossible.

This pop culture mammoth of a film follows the maiden voyage from Southhampton in England to New York of the “unsinkable ship” Titanic. It collided with an iceberg in the cold waters of the North Atlantic Ocean in the early morning hours of April 15th, 19, 2 and ultimately sank to the bottom of its watery grave.

The film also follows the onboard romance lived by Jack (Di Caprio) and Rose (Winslet) who navigate the turmoils of the times preconceived judgments on the mixing of people from different social and economic backgrounds. The film presses hard on the subject of class but approached from a Romeo & Juliet’esque narrative.
