Prisoners On The Loose After Having Lunch With The Pope

What better way to build up the courage to escape from prison than lunch with the Pope? As crazy as it sounds, this is exactly what happened last Friday in Bologna, Italy, when Pope Francis reunited with a group of inmates to break bread and pray. His holiness is known for his charitable work with prisoners and other vulnerable groups, it’s not unusual for him to organize events like this, but after this incident, it seems that his visits with prisoners will require extra supervision besides the all-seeing eyes of God.

According to Italian newspaper Il Resto del Carlino, two Italian prisoners, who were invited as guests to have lunch with the Catholic authority, took advantage of the situation and fled the scene, by the time the lasagna was being served, the two inmates had already disappeared. The press reported that the two detainees are part of an open imprisonment regime in a special center of reintegration near Modena, this center is mostly integrated by drug addicts and people deemed to be socially dangerous.  After the volunteers realized that the inmates were gone, the police were immediately alerted, as of now, local police are requiring the public for information that could lead to the capture of these two dangerous fugitives.

So much for his grace’s mercy, it’s extremely bizarre that one would pull a stunt like this while in the presence of the pontiff, maybe the inmates are atheists or maybe they felt blessed enough to get away with their escape, whatever went through their heads when this happened will remain a mystery until they are caught, that is if they are ever caught. Nevertheless, there is no denying that this piece of news sounds like the plot of an action-packed Hollywood crime movie.

Pope Francis, who was born as Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Argentina, became the 266th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church when a papal conclave elected him after the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI. The Latin Pope is the first Jesuit to sit as head of the Vatican, he is also the first Pope to be born in the American continent, the first from the southern hemisphere, the first to not have a title number attached to his papal name since Lando in 913 AD, and the first pontiff from outside Europe since Syrian Pope Gregory III who sat in office during the 8th century. Also, he’s the first Pope to put out a rock album! Give it a listen, he actually has some pretty sick riffs!
