This is the thing with ideology: people invest themselves so much in them that when they are presented with contradicting facts, they start rejecting them, no matter how much truth they carry. This is similar to what happened with Rebecca Bredow, the Michigan mother who as of last week was sentenced to jail for refusing a court-ordered mandate to vaccinate her son.
Now, not only is she going to jail, but she also lost primary custody of her kid. One would think that by now, Mrs. Bredow would have caught the message, but Bredow claims that she would “do it all over again.”
“I was trying to protect my kids,” said Rebecca Bredow to ABC News. “I was trying to stand up for what I believed in, and it was worth it for me to try and take the risk because I was trying to stop the vaccinations from happening.”
Apparently, Bredow will not be changing her stance anytime soon, and she’s digging in and doubling down on a losing hand. Only in America.

“Never in a million years did I ever think that I would end up in jail standing up to try to protect my kids, and standing up for my beliefs,” Bredow said before stating that those five days she spent in jail were “the longest five days of my life.” Given the fact that her son was vaccinated anyway, you could expect the mother to cut her losses and reconsider her posture, but still, she claims it was worth it.

According to ABC News, Bredow and her ex-husband, Jason Horne, agreed that they would not vaccinate their son, but after their separation in 2008, Mr. Horne requested that his son got vaccinated. One could speculate that all this could have been a ploy to get back at her ex. We hope for the children’s sake that is not the case, especially because the son is only nine-years-old and is having a hard time grasping the situation.

“The court has ordered that I’m not allowed to speak with him about it which is kind of hard, he’s almost 10-years-old so he understands more than the court would say I’m allowed to explain to him,” said Bredow to ABC. “I don’t know what his father has said to him, so I don’t know what he’s thinking right now.”

Bredow, of course, is already planning her appeal to get the primary custody of her son back. We just hope that this involves a compromise on her part to respect the law and give her kids the proper medical care that they deserve.
