Miami Mother Defends Herself From Child Abuse Charges Claiming Her Son Deserved It

A Colombian mother living in the United States is facing child abuse charges for holding her six-year-old son’s hand to a hot stove, what has caught the media’s attention though is that the mother is defending her unorthodox discipline methods by claiming her son deserved it because he is a ‘bully’ and animal killer.

The son was quickly taken into foster care after his injury and his mother Mirian Rebolledo was arrested at their home in Miami last week, however, the mother posted a $7,500 bail on Friday and was released, but not before giving the media a piece of her mind about gun control and parenting in the U.S.

“My son is so rebellious that he got to the point to kill an animal. What am I supposed to do?” the woman started ranting in Spanish in front of journalists without indicating what animal her son had supposedly killed. “All the news every day, you see young people – 12, 13, 14 years old – they end up in schools with guns, and in this country, it’s so easy to get guns.” said the mother jumping from one subject to the other.

“You want my son to grow up to be a bully who beats up on kids?” the woman continued. “And he isn’t just going after boys, he bullied a girl,” she started telling a CBS reporter. The judge that presided her case, however, disagreed with the mother’s characterization of the boy. ‘You have the cutest son. I met him this morning,’ Miami-Dade County Judge Ariana Fajardo Orshan said.

The judged exhorted the mother’s brutal parenting techniques and told her, “Maybe in Colombia, it’s okay to take a child’s put their burning hand on the stove, in the United States, it’s not, that’s not proper parenting. That is never a proper way to discipline a child.’

Rebolledo told the police that she took the decision to harm the 6-year-old boy after a teacher had told her that he had punched ‘another’ student, the mother then claimed that she could not find another way to get through to the boy.

“The defendant stated she could not take it anymore and had to use a more extreme form of punishment to teach the child a lesson,” read the police report obtained by NBC Miami. Details about the extent of the boy’s injuries or who reported the incident to the police are still unclear.
