Star Of ‘The Voice’ Melanie Martinez Accused Of Sexual Assault By Ex-Best Friend

Aspiring female singer, Timothy Heller, came forth with a Tweet this Monday recounting the time her former best friend, Melanie Martinez, sexually abused her. The tweet reads: “I have kept this secret for years, convincing myself that it wasn’t a big deal and I wasn’t hurt by it.”

Melanie Martinez, who shot to stardom as a singer after appearing on “The Voice”, denied any truth to Heller’s statements. Heller first goes on to describe the co-dependent relationship she once had with Martinez, further stating that as her life hit a rock bottom, Melanie’s power over her grew.

“I was dependent on helping her with her life. As soon as I needed a small bit of focus and support from my best friend, there was nothing for us to relate to each other about. Our friendship was about her,” wrote Heller. “When faced with a friend who really needed help, I can honestly say she let me down completely.”

Newsday

The event in question took place over the course of a two-night sleepover. A talk about sexual preferences would escalate to Martinez asking Heller to sleep with her. For the duration of the first night, Heller laughed it off and repeatedly blew her off.

“My boyfriend would be upset. I had work in the morning. I just wanted to sleep. I was exhausted.” The second night, however, after they both smoked marijuana, the situation escalated.

Heller makes it very clear that she was molested by her best friend. Even though she never consented and she repeatedly said no, she says Martinez had too much influence on her so she allowed the situation to happen.

Heavy

They would never talk about this again, and ended the friendship later on, with Heller claiming that Martinez “decided she didn’t have time to worry about me anymore. She cared too much about me, it was holding her back.”

“I beg you to imagine her role in this being a man. Girls can rape girls. Best friends can rape best friends. Friendship does not equal consent. Silence doesn’t equal consent. I wish it wasn’t so hard for me to convince myself of these things.”

The singer responded to Heller’s account early Tuesday morning. “I am horrified and saddened by the statements and story told tonight by Timoty Heller. What she and I shared was a close friendship for a period of time. We came into each other’s lives as we were both starting our careers as artists, and we tried to help each other.

“We both had pain in dealing with our individual demons and the new paths we were forging, but I truly felt we were trying to lift each other up. She never said no to what we chose to do together. And although we parted ways, I am sending her love and light always.”
