Donald Trump is no stranger to being in the spotlight, especially due to his loudmouthed tendencies. While at an Alabama campaign rally Friday night, Trump had some unfavorable words to say about former NFL quarterback, Colin Kaepernick.
The POTUS believes Kaepernick disrespected the American flag last year when taking a knee during the national anthem before each game. Kaepernick is currently unemployed thanks to last season’s fiasco, with no team wanting to be part of his media circus.
In fact, Trump has publicly stated that he is responsible for the quarterback’s downfall after leaving the San Francisco 49ers. “It was reported that NFL owners don’t want to pick him up because they don’t want to get a nasty tweet from Donald Trump,” the president recently said. “Do you believe that? I just saw that.”

This time around, Trump used foul language in front of the Alabama crowd in support of U.S. Senator Luther Strange, to again give his take on Kaepernick. “We’re proud of our country. We respect our flag,” Trump said. The POTUS is saying that Colin does not respect his country for protesting oppression and racism against African-Americans.
Trump continued to slam Colin Kaepernick during his speech, saying, “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out. He’s fired!'”
The president’s harsh commentary of Colin Kaepernick prompted a sea of responses against Trump, with many pointing out that he feels more strongly about Kaepernick taking a knee than white supremacists terrorizing people. Trump was famously called out after not condemning the Virginia attacks by a Neo-Nazi group.
“When people like yourselves turn on the television and you see those people taking the knee when they are playing our great national anthem, the only thing you could do better is if you see it, even if it’s one player, leave the stadium. I guarantee things will stop.”
Trump is telling his followers exactly what they want to hear. It’s no secret that those who openly support Donald Trump also hate the way Colin Kaepernick stands up for his rights. But the truth is, though, that despite all of Trump’s attempts at making Colin look bad, Kaepernick won’t stop preaching what he believes in.
Last year Colin Kaepernick had one of the best-selling jerseys in the NFL, while Trump reached one of the lowest approval ratings ever. Kaepernick speaks to the future generations that will fight for equality, while Trump talks to the lowest common denominator with outdated views of the world. And love will always trump hate.
