Touched By Her Story, Thalía Gives Makeover To Cancer Survivor

Thalía, 46, proved to have a huge heart when she heard the story of a cancer survivor and gave her a full makeover. Lisa Smith, a mother of four, noticed a lump on her breast about six years ago, and doctors told her that it was malignant.

Fortunately, after two excisions, eight months of chemo, and daily radiation for seven weeks, Smith beat cancer. Lisa and her daughter Mia, 6, decided to start a campaign named Make Cents of Breast Cancer to help with cancer research.

The two managed to raise $7,000 for their campaign, and when Thalía caught wind of this, she wanted to help Smith in the best way she knows how. Thalía’s makeover gift helped Lisa feel more confident, happy, and overall at peace with herself.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Lisa said, “Oh my gosh, you feel like you can conquer the world when you feel beautiful and with the nice, right outfit. I feel completely different right now! It empowers you.”

Thalía feels inspired by Lisa’s braveness, patience, and fighting spirit, but she also identifies with her struggle. The ‘Amor A La Mexicana’ singer says her battle with Lyme disease wouldn’t allow her to get out of bed, much less think about anything.

“You don’t have time to think about anything. I kind of identify with it in my little experience with Lyme disease because when you go through that you can’t move from your bed. You can’t think about anything.” – Thalía

The telenovela star has donated money from her Macy’s clothing line, Thalía Sodi for Macy’s, to cancer research in the past, but knows that feeling pampered is what a woman wants after that trauma. She let Lisa pick out outfits from her collection, and then did her make-up and hair.

When asked if she had a personal connection with anybody who’s had cancer, Thalía said, “Yes I do. I have a lot of friends that have been through cancer,” she explained. “One of my friends opened the Dubin Breast Center at Mount Sinai. It’s a facility where everything you need is in one place.”

“You don’t have to go all overseeing different specialists. You get your whole treatment there. Since day one, I’ve been there, supporting her,” she continued. “She has done everything, painting walls, cleaning. It is very important for women to be there for one another. It should be as basic as drinking water every day.”
