Back in 2001, New Jersey filmmaker Kevin Smith released one of his funniest films to date, Jay & The Silent Bob Strike Back, in this film a dial-up era Ben Affleck, explains this new phenomenon called the internet to the film’s protagonists, “The internet is a communications tool used the world over where people can come together to bitch about movies and share pornography with one another,” these, of course, were simpler times, long before social media was a global trend and Kim Kardashian taught us the power of screenshots.
Nowadays, ‘bitching‘ on the internet can cause you serious trouble, it could even get you fired, and if you don’t believe me just ask Texas teaching assistant, Amy Davidson, who lost her jobs after screenshots of her foul and racist Facebook comments started circulating online. After the fiasco, Davidson resigned from her post in Lubbock’s Preston Smith Elementary, denying her employers the pleasure of firing her over the embarrassing diatribe she released upon a woman named Donica Torres, while arguing the NFL player’s anthem protest (See what you cause Donnie!).
“Are you f*cking ret*rded? Mistreatment of black people by cops? We have black cops stupid bitch, the only racism we have in our country is ignorant people like you! Shut the f*ck up and go get a job.”
Amy Davidson, former Preston Smith Elementary assistant teacher.
The first question that comes to mind is how this person is even allowed to be within 1,000 mile radius of children, let alone teach at a school. The second question that comes to mind is, how can anyone be so naive to think that they could get away with saying something of that nature in a public forum. Haven’t people learned anything from the whole Taylor Swift and Kanye West screenshot debacle? Don’t say anything online that you can’t back up in real life.
We’d rather not repeat any more of Amy Davidson’s hate speech, but if you’re really curious to know, watch the video Lubbock’s 95.1 KYFO posted about the incident. Nancy Sharp a Lubbock independent school district spokesperson had to release a press statement about Davidson. “Yesterday, Lubbock ISD was made aware of posts on the personal Facebook page of Amy Davidson which were in violation of the district’s employee handbook,” Nancy said. Davidson resigned her position this morning, effective immediately, she has been employed by the district less than two years as an educational aide.
