Let’s face it, it’s been 22 years after Selena Quintanilla’s death, and she’s still the brightest diamond of them all. She’s pretty much like The Beatles for Latinos, so it is only fair that we honor the star in a way that will never be forgotten.
The Tex-Mex Queen has left behind a phenomenal musical legacy that her fans have carried into immortality, and that’s why the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has finally recognized the Latino icon. On November 3rd, she will most deservingly be getting her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but that’s not all, the city of Los Angeles will officiate the day as “Selena Day.”

“This day is finally becoming a reality and we cannot be happier. We are grateful Selena’s life has been an inspiration to so many and we hope it will continue to encourage people to follow their dreams,” said Suzette Quintanilla, the sister of our Texan queen.

The event, much to the delight of fans, will take place on Friday, November 3rd, in front of the Capitol Records building located at 1750 Vine Street in the city of Hollywood, California. The entire Quintanilla family, along with the Hollywood Chamber President/CEO and Walk of Fame emcee, Leron Gubler, will be present for the unveiling of Selena’s star.
But that is only the beginning. The party will continue when Los Angeles Mayor, Eric Garcetti. and actress Eva Longoria, who just so happens to be from Texas, show up to forever commemorate November 3rd as “Selena Day” in LA. This will allow her fans to have an annual celebration of the Techno Cumbia star.

A week ago we celebrated the 28th anniversary of the release of her debut album. It seems like it was only yesterday when her music came to light up our lives and dance floors. To think how powerful she was and how many people were inspired by her warm spirit is overwhelming. To this day, there hasn’t been any other artist that has brought together so many Latinos. She was a true trailblazer for every other Hispanic performer that came after her.

People on the outside wonder ‘what’s the big deal?’ Why did Google dedicate a doodle to the deceased artist? To those people, we can only say, that they have never truly loved someone if they haven’t dedicated a Selena song before. And if you have never Bidi Bidi Bom Bom’d before, have you ever really danced?
