A Mexican couple got attacked by a racist man in the Bronx for speaking Spanish on the subway. The couple was on their way home from a party when the attacker approached and harassed them.
The police released a video that shows the attacker leaving the subway station. However, there are no cameras in the subway, where the incident occurred.
On Tuesday night, the couple was on the train on their way to the Bronx. Another couple got offended because they were speaking Spanish and dared them to speak English, just to see if they could.
Another man – the attacker – approached them and threatened the Mexican couple, saying, “Oh, now you’re going to see how we do it in the hood,” according to the Mexican woman. The attacker got off the train on 176th St. and that’s when the attack happened.
He slashed the Mexican man’s face with a blade right before getting off the train. “I felt something hot, something touching my face. When I reacted I was bleeding and lost consciousness. I don’t remember anything after that,” said the Mexican man.
The attacker ran away, but video cameras near the station recorded him. The Police published the video in efforts to identify the attacker, who they described as a black man – 20 to 30 years of age.
Incidents like this happened before in New York. In January, a 71-year-old woman got attacked under the same circumstances in Brooklyn.
