Oscar De La Hoya Challenges Conor McGregor To A Fight

After Conor McGregor’s disappointing boxing debut against undefeated world champion Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather JR., the UFC lightweight champion is not ready to hang his gloves just yet, on the contrary, he is already eyeing his next opponent and it seems that it will be against another big name boxing star who has claimed to be more than prepared to take on the Irish fighter.

Golden Boy Promotions head honcho, Oscar De La Hoya has already hinted to come back from retirement, only so he can get in the ring one more time against McGregor. “You know, I’m competitive,” said De La Hoya on Golden Boy Radio with Tattoo and the Crew, “I still have it in me. I’ve been secretly training. I’m faster than ever and stronger than ever.”

De La Hoya is one of boxing’s biggest names in history, the Mexican-American fighter became a gold medalist in the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games and single-handedly retired Mexico’s top gun, Julio Cesar Chavez, taking the icon’s place as the best fighter in the world for many years until a series of losses against Felix Trinidad, Shane Mosley, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, ultimately led to his retirement in 2008.

With an impressive 39-6 career record, De La Hoya is actually considering to make a comeback at age 44 against 29-year-old McGregor who holds a record of 21-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC, and 0-1 boxing. The bout would really put McGregor’s allegation of boxing prowess to the test because against Mayweather we didn’t really see much of that supposed ability.

“I know I can take out Conor McGregor in two rounds. I’ll come back for that one. Two rounds – just one more (fight). I’m calling him out. Two rounds – that’s all I need. That’s all I’m going to say. You heard it on Golden Boy Radio. Two rounds – that’s all I need.” said De La Hoya about a possible fight against the mixed martial artist who wants to make a jump into boxing.

However many fans are questioning De La Hoya’s claims, the boxing promoter hasn’t had a professional bout in 9 years, so it is being assumed that his claims come more from a financial point of view given the commercial success of McGregor’s fight against Mayweather back in August.

So what do you think? Is this fight just another financial gimmick to cash out on fan’s nostalgia feelings, or can the two actually put up a real fight that will go down in history? Let us know your thoughts.
