Heidy Rios got arrested this past Friday after a New Orleans hospital reported to local authorities that her 3-week-old newborn had a cranium fracture from Rios throwing the baby at her boyfriend. During a heated argument on Thursday, November 23rd, with the baby’s father, the Terrytown, Louisianna mother reportedly threw the newborn at him.
Heidy’s boyfriend – the child’s father – took his baby to the hospital shortly after the devastating incident, and doctors determined he had a fracture on his right temporal bone, located on the side of his skull. According to the report, Rios yelled, “Take your fu***ng son,” after hurling him at the father.
The father’s statement and the baby’s injuries were more than enough to apprehend 24-year-old Heidy Rios. Investigators questioned her, and she denied ever holding the baby at first but retracted her statement after a ‘neutral’ eyewitness told detectives she indeed was holding her son.
Rios, according to the report, later said she was holding her baby and that she “may have dropped the child” during the argument. On November 24th, she was arrested by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and booked with cruelty to a juvenile.
There is currently no specific information regarding the boy’s well-being, but Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Spokesman, Lt. Jason Rivarde, said the injuries were not life-threatening. Meanwhile, Rios is at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna without bond.
