The Miss America pageant can often be a joke when it comes to the questions segment. Many times models make fools of themselves trying to answer a question without any prior knowledge of the issue at hand. Such was not the case when Miss Texas (Margana Wood) had to give her point of view regarding Donald Trump’s response to a white supremacist’s Virginia attack.
It was very obvious that it was a terrorist attack, and I think that President Donald Trump should have made a statement earlier addressing the fact. And then making sure all Americans feel safe in this country. That is the number one issue right now.
Her words come at a time when Trump is destroying the rights of citizens throughout the United States. He recently announced that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, issued during the Obama administration, would be rescinded. His hatred towards immigrants is no secret, but justifying a terrorist attack due to the color of the perp’s skin is a new low for Trump.
Not only did it take him an inexplicably long amount of time to address the nation regarding the attack, he believes both sides should share the blame. He said, “there are very fine people on both sides.” The attack came by Neo-Nazis and the KKK during a counter protest in Charlottesville.
One protestor was killed by the white supremacist groups, but Trump refused to call it a terrorist attack. The problem here is, had the attacker been Muslim, journalists would have had a field day with the word terrorism. However, since the killers were white, they brushed this off as an isolated incident, including the POTUS.
Margana Wood’s response received a roaring cheer from the crowd, but the crown went to Miss North Dakota (Cara Mund) instead. Miss Wood won’t let this loss stop her, though, as she is an avid protector of LGBTQ rights and speaker against bullying. She believes in equality for all and inclusion.
Seeing how Wood is more than what meets the eye, it’s safe to say she won’t stop fighting for the rights of the helpless people in America. Her personal website spreads the message of “You Belong”. There, visitors can read more about her personal life and how she helps others.
Audiences are also encouraged to donate money for the less fortunate. The money goes to sponsoring young women, providing scholarships and other resources to those in need. Miss Texas, Margana Wood, has become a symbol of hope for young women of all backgrounds, and we believe she will continue to provide that hope for years to come.
