Mexican Actor Who Slapped Univision’s Reporter Surprises Viewers During Televised Apology

Mexican telenovela star Eduardo Yáñez has finally come out into the spotlight to comment on the violent incident that took place in a Pantaya red carpet event a little over a week ago against Univision reporter Paco Fuentes. During the course of the event, Fuentes inquired Yáñez about his son, a touchy subject for the actor who was clearly upset about the question and responded by slapping Univision’s reporter across the face, requiring him to receive medical attention.

Yáñez appeared on Univision’s “El Gordo y la Flaca” on Thursday, to apologize for slapping the show’s reporter and also gave his side of the story. “I want to apologize to Paco, my course of action was improper, I agree with the public, press and everyone else that is now talking about me, I feel that Paco was prying on a very personal and sensitive subject for me. It’s about defending my family and not allowing them to touch my son and he was threading on something that doesn’t belong to him, at that moment I thought and felt he was very insistent and perceived as if he was making fun of my situation and my son and I couldn’t handle it, I lost it and I want to apologize to the public for my behavior and to him [Paco Fuentes] as well, I wish we could have met under different circumstances.”

Raúl de Molina, better known as ‘El Gordo’ said that even though he has known Eduardo for 24 years, he was still having second thoughts on whether he should bring Yáñez to the show or not because of the actor’s knack for trouble and controversy, and claimed that this incident was by far the worst thing he has ever done. Eduardo who was trying hard to keep composure eventually broke down in tears while regretfully mustering his apology and asking for understanding. “I also want to apologize to all my collegaues who where there and didn’t have to witness such an unsavory event and to all the people who organized the event, my most sincere apologies,” said Yáñez moments before his voice started cracking, “Now I have to return to Mexico, with the people that love me, the people who know me well and to reflect on myself and this situation, maybe look for professional help and start again because I’m a human being and I make mistakes, I’m just another of God’s children, just because of that… yeah.”

Journalist Paco Fuentes is still to report on Yáñez’s statement.
