An unseen home video from 1999 depicting teenage Meghan Markle driving home from a Shakira backup dancer audition shows the 18-year-old beaming with excitement at the possibility of making $600 bucks.
The footage shows Meghan driving back in her little Volvo with her friend Ninaki Priddy. The clip, obtained by The Sun, shows an entirely different sight from her present-day surroundings.
She is now a successful TV star engaged to Prince Harry, but back then she was merely an actress desperately trying to land roles. “We all just danced like wild women, and I was shaking my hair around and all sorts of stuff, so hopefully I’ll book that,” Meghan tells her friend in the video.
“It’s six hundred dollars for two days and if not then I’ll probably get extra work for it which would be just as good,” she continued. “I won’t get any camera shots, but it will be just as fun.”
She then adds, while fiddling with her strapless top, “I am burning up, I was nervous I was going to fall out of my top I was just shaking around so much.” She mentions recognizing a girl who participated in Tori Amos’ 1000 Oceans music video shoot where she also got featured.
Although she was ultimately unsuccessful landing the Shakira job, two years later would have her landing a one-episode part in General Hospital. After making multiple minor appearances in 2005, she would finally land her big break in 2011 as Rachel Zane in Suits.
