Man Driven Into Hiding for 10 Years Because Of Obnoxious Wife

We’ve all thought about it, we’ve all at times wished we could just pack up and leave or troubled lives behind for good and turn into some yogi hermit or something, but we never actually do it, for fear of ending up worse than we already are, this was not the case with Malcolm Applegate though, oh no sir, when Mr. Applegate had reached his limit, he decided that drastic changes were needed and he went all for them.

62-year-old Malcolm Applegate was married to his wife for three years when decided he had had enough of her constant and obnoxious nagging and packed his stuff to go live in the woods like a man of God.

“I was married to her for three years, but unfortunately it got too much,” said Malcolm to the Daily Mail, “First of all I met her in Eastbourne and I married her in Birmingham. For three years it was alright, we got on with one another and the gardening got too much for her.”

He fled from Birmingham where he lived with his old hag and made his way to London, but it took him three weeks to get there because he made the whole journey on foot, after having his bike stolen, “I didn’t lock my bike up in Oxford and someone helped themselves to it, so I had to walk back from Oxford.” Malcolm said.

Malcolm who used to work as a gardener, claims his wife became enraged with his work schedule and that the long hours really started affecting Mrs. Applegate. “She said, ‘Why don’t we have more time together?’ I said, ‘How can I? I have been recommended to people’.” said Mr. Applegate about the arguments with his wife.

With his gardening career on the rise and his marriage on the low, Applegate figured that the proper thing to do was just disappear completely and try to keep doing what he loves best, which is gardening. “I just upped and left, I got fed up with her because we used to get so many arguments,” said Malcolm.

Soon after arriving at the city, Malcolm started camping in “thick woodland” near Kingston, south-west London, while working as a gardener in a community center for the elderly. “There were three of us camping, they were just camping around with me because at the time I was working in the center and we used to go there for a wash and a shower,” said Malcolm about his arrival in London. “No one knew we were there. It’s not well known – nobody would go in there.”

Now that Malcolm has turned 62, he decided it was high time to let his family -who had already presumed him dead- know that he was ok, that he just went on a long weekend camping trip, his sister seemed to look the happiest for his return. “I wrote her a letter once I was settled in Greenwich and she phoned me up, in floods of tears. We now have a great relationship again,” says Malcolm.

Mr. Applegate now lives in Emmaus Greenwich Center, a shelter for the homeless in Greenwich, South London, where he spends his days doing odd jobs and sometimes he tends to the gardens. On his spare time, he also likes to do sponsored walks for other homeless charities.”My recent walk through London raised almost £300 for Street Souls, not bad for a man in his sixties.” says Malcolm about his charity work.

“I’d like the people who donate to Emmaus to know that I am grateful for being given a second chance at life.” Continued Mr. Applegate, “I have a lovely room, I am able to work and I can still lead an active social life – I love it here – my life is officially back on track.”

Godspeed Malcolm Applegate.
