Latino Neighbor Turns Kid’s Wheelchair Into Star Wars Space Ship For Halloween

And your abuela would say that nothing good could come out of the godless Halloween! She probably never had friends like Mike Fernandez, better known around the block as Mr. Mike, whose selfless act of neighborly love is already melting hearts all around the world. On Mr. Mike’s block lives Cole Geraghty an 8-year-old-boy that suffers from spinal muscular atrophy, his disease affects his nervous system directly and requires him to use a wheelchair, but according to Fernandez, that shouldn’t stop the boy from having the most awesome Halloween ever! The creative neighbor took it upon himself to turn Cole’s wheelchair into the most rad Tie Fighter you have ever seen!

Fernandez spent eight weeks building a contraption that wraps completely around Cole’s motorized wheelchair and transformed it into the spaceship that Darth Vader used in a Star Wars Episode III ‘A New Hope” when he was trying to stop Luke Skywalker from blowing up the Death Star. So let’s face it, everybody can just give up and award Mike and Cole the award for best Halloween costume of the year. If you’re a Star Wars fan, you can understand just how much of a big deal this is, I mean, who even does that? It’s not a meaningless store-bought costume, Mike actually put in effort and soul to build this from scratch with his own hands, and it’s hard to think of someone more deserving of this honor than Cole.

To make this story even cooler, Cole didn’t know what Mr. Mike was working on, he knew something was up, but he didn’t know everything, up until it was time to reveal the big surprise. Cole obviously couldn’t be happier about his neighbor’s gesture and his mother bought him the Darth Vader costume to complete the look and so he can restore order and justice to the galaxy once and for all. With only a few days left for Halloween, Cole is eager to show off his amazing costume and is already zooming around his Parker, Colorado neighborhood dressed as the Star Wars villain. Hopefully, Cole won’t have many run-ins with Rebel Scum along the way and he will be able to fly safely back home after trick or treating.

Cole’s family says they spread their son’s joy and pass this design along to another kid with SMA next year.
