Rosa Rivera, the mother of the late Jenni Rivera ‘La Diva de la Banda’ and Mexican American singer-songwriter Lupillo Rivera, has taken a swing at Homeland Housewares company, by sharing her frightening experience with the NutriBullet blender, a highly marketed appliance in Mexico.
Rivera claims that 10 days ago, the Nutribullet 600 Deluxe that she has been using for the past year exploded in her hands, causing her some serious injuries like second and third-degree burns to her hands, head, face, and neck. The mother of the Grammy award winning artists, showed pictures of her injuries to the media.

Rosa claims that she is filing a lawsuit against the appliance company, her attorneys, however, have informed Mrs. Rivera that she is not the only person who has been injured using the compact blender. “We are representing 22 clients and have been getting calls almost on a weekly basis with people who have been injured with a NutriBullet machine,” said ACTS law firm attorney Danny Abir.
According to the attorney, the blender doesn’t just cause burns like the ones that Rivera suffered, but that in some cases lacerations have occurred due to the NutriBullet’s sharp blades. “This is a closed canister with blades in it that are spinning at tens of thousands revolutions per minute.” said another attorney Aaron Lavine.

“What that does is create a friction and then heat, which creates a dangerous condition that allows these eruptions of the content of the blender,” continued the attorney. The lawsuit alleges that the design of the blender is defective, which causes the canister over-pressure thus leading to dangerous explosions of its contents.
The attorneys demanded that the company recalls the NutriBullets and that they add warning labels to their products that explain the blender’s dangers. The law firm has also claimed that the company is aware of its products defectiveness but that they chose to blame the explosion on user error and even issued a statement in response to these claims.

“Customer safety and satisfaction are paramount at NutriBullet, and we were saddened to learn about Ms. Rivera’s accident. Unfortunately, her attorneys are attempting to sway public opinion about a safe and effective product by orchestrating a publicity campaign making the NutriBullet appear dangerous. There have been hundreds of millions of uses by satisfied NutriBullet customers worldwide, who have simply followed the provided operating instructions and warnings. We will work with Ms. Rivera’s attorneys to determine the cause of her accident.”
UPDATE: I have received a cease and desist order from NutriBullet in response to my special report last night regarding allegations their devices "burst" and cause severe burns and lacerations. Follow up story airing tonight at 10. @FOXLA pic.twitter.com/ng6qjJS5Wk
