Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez announced the creation of “Somos Una Voz” (We Are One Voice), a relief initiative backed by an alliance of over 30 artists.
Jennifer Lopez stated: “Somos Una Voz is an alliance of artists working together to rush food shelter, medicine, power and communications to areas affected by recent natural disasters” in the wake of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and Mexico’s 7.1 earthquake.
Some of the stars participating are Alejandro Fernández, Alejandro Sanz, Alex Rodríguez Bruno Mars, Chayanne, Daddy Yankee, Ed Sheeran, J Balvin, Jessy & Joy, Juan Luis Guerra, Luis Fonsi, Maluma, Pitbull, Ricky Martin, Vin Diesel, Yandel, among others.
With over 1.3 billion social media followers combined, the alliance members are encouraging friends and followers to come together, offer donations, and bring “hope and relief to the people that need it most.”
J Lo said: “Alex Rodriguez and I, who are both New Yorkers, are using all our resources and relationships in entertainment, sports and business to garner support for Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.”
Meanwhile, Anthony has been using his social media platform to raise awareness and spread messages of hope to people in Latin America who have been struggling to bounce back from the storm.

Anthony has also confirmed that he is talking to politicians to join forces and get much needed help to Puerto Rico as soon as possible. This comes after just a few days the singer slammed President Trump for not taking enough action on the matter.
At a press conference Sunday, where New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo promised state aid for the ravaged region, Lopez reiterated the need for urgency: “Puerto Ricans are American citizens, and today Puerto Rico needs our help, Hurricane Maria has devastated our island.”
Lopez also serves as co-chair for the Cuomo-launched Empire State Relief and Recovery Effort for Puerto Rico, and thanked the governor for his assistance.
But Lopez isn’t the only celebrity using their star power to support the devastated island, Pitbull lent his own jet to transport cancer patients from Puerto Rico to New York to get chemotherapy treatment.

Despacito singer Daddy Yankee, who used Puerto Rico as the dynamic backdrop for hit record-breaking music video, personally donated $100,000 to Feeding America and an additional $100,000 to the Red Cross. He told CNN: “We’ve never seen anything like this before, we need help”.
Hurricane Maria tore a devastating path through Puerto Rico, leaving it without power and running water in many areas. Many relatives and friends are desperate to contact and help loved ones living in the island.
The public can donate to the fund at somosunavoz.com. Donations collected by Somos Una Voz will go to American Red Cross, Reach Out Worldwide, United Way and United for Puerto Rico, with more beneficiaries expected to be announced.
