With all eyes focused on the growing tensions with North Korea, another of the US enemies are starting to make moves that could endanger the country. According to Newsweek, Iranian warships are expected to travel close to US mainland. Iran, who is seen as a growing threat to the United States, will send their warships through the Gulf of Mexico, which is a distance of high concern to our country.
Iran’s new navy commander, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, announced at a press conference on Wednesday that a fleet of warships would depart Iran and “will soon go to the Atlantic Ocean, visit some South American countries, and wave the Iranian flag in the Gulf of Mexico.”

Iran wants to establish their military presence on a global scale, that’s why the warships tour is happening. “Sailing in open waters between Europe and Americas should be the Navy’s goal, which will be realized in the near future,” stated Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, deputy coordinator of the Iranian army. Khanzadi also stated that the Iranian navy would release new submarines and other vessels next year.
Last month, the Iranian Armed Forces’ deputy chief of staff stated the United States intentions are “crystal clear” and that the country is “trying to weaken” the defense resources of Iran, who has accused America of supporting “terrorism” and “ISIS” Jazayeri says that the US created ISIS as a way to incite Islamophobia.

Jazayeri also argues that the United States unleashed ISIS in many middle-eastern countries as mercenaries in a “proxy war”. Iran has made several calls to Europe in order to confront the US for its alleged terrorist efforts.
A Washington Examiner op-ed suggested that presence of Iran in the Gulf of Mexico could be a good thing, as it would allow “immediate and sustained monitoring from the US Navy,” however, others suspect that the relatively small fleet could also provide the Muslim majority country with an opportunity to obtain intelligence on the United States and its forces.

Regardless of how it pans out, in the end, this situation will most likely be heavily monitored, though it is unlikely, this seemingly harmless warship tour could serve as a cover to launch an attack on US soil, but taking into account President Donald Trump’s opinions on the country, it is most likely that the event is already being followed closely by several intelligence agencies.
