Frida Kahlo was a Mexican-American beauty and one of the most influential and revolutionary artists of her time. Her whole persona defied cultural boundaries and social norms.

Because of her rebellious nature, Kahlo is an icon to the Latinx community. In the last century, merchandise inspired by Frida includes makeup brushes, cups, t-shirts with her face proudly stamped on them, and now pads.

Recently, the Saba company, well known for their feminine menstrual products, took the Frida trend a bit too far, deciding that Frida’s face on their Kahlo-inspired travel cases and pad dispensers would be a fantastic marketing strategy. Twitter is going crazy with fan reactions toward the product.

Some users are all for it, though. One fan tweeted that she bought Saba adult diapers only to get the Frida Kahlo bag and panty organizer that was included. Other individuals found the whole thing humorous.

“Pies, para que los quiero, si tengo ALAS pa´volar,” tweets AstaretMX, quoting Kahlo’s infamous phrase, “Why would I want feet, when I have (panty-liner) WINGS to fly with.”

Others comment on the irony that Frida, who was a socialist, is now the poster-child for a capitalist campaign. Despite the mixed reviews, the strategy seems to be performing okay, and it doesn’t come at all as a surprise.

What can we say? Everybody loves Frida Kahlo.
