Father Of Missing Sherin Mathews Radically Changes Story, Admits To Moving Her Body

The story of Sherin Mathews – the 3-year-old girl who allegedly disappeared after her father sent her outside at 3:00 a.m. as punishment for not drinking her milk – just got a lot more confusing. According to police documents, the Texas father changed his story on Monday during a meeting with this attorney and detectives. Authorities report that 37-year-old Wesley Mathews now claims that Sherin died choking on her drink.

On October 7th, Mathews made a report with the police concerning the disappearance of Sherin, who according to her dad, was sent outside their Richardson, Texas home for 15 minutes before vanishing. Wesley even claimed that it could have been coyotes who took his daughter, but after the body was recovered on Sunday, and a group of local medical examiners confirmed it belonged to Sherin, things have changed for the Mathews family.

The Mathews adopted Sherin, who was originally born in India, and according to Wesley, she would not obey his instruction to drink milk while they were in the family’s garage at 3 in the morning. The girl would eventually comply and was supposedly assisted by her adoptive father.

Sherin then began to choke.

“She was coughing and her breathing slowed,” said the affidavit. “Eventually, Wesley Mathews no longer felt a pulse on the child and believed she had died.”

Wesley admitted to moving her body from the scene.

The father was charged Monday with ‘injury to a child’ – a first-degree felony that could carry a maximum punishment of 99 years in prison, according to the police. Sergeant Kevin Perlich of Richardson PD said in a phone interview with Reuters on Tuesday that detectives were still seeking answers to all the questions that continue popping up. One of the questions includes what business did a 3-year-old girl have in a garage at 3 in the morning, and why was she was being requested to drink milk?

Before this new detail in the investigation broke out, Mathews had been charged with suspected child endangerment. He originally told the police that he made his daughter stand next to a tree in an alley outside their house for the sole purpose of not drinking her milk. At the time, Mathews claimed that he had only taken his eyes off her for 15 minutes when she disappeared, even though he reported the incident to the police 5 hours later.
