As if getting a job nowadays wasn’t hard enough, a worker at a Texas fast-food restaurant threw hers out of the window, when she refused to serve two police officers who above all were also paying customers. The company had no other choice but to fire the woman who will now join the staggering unemployment ranks of the country.
Chief Jay Burch of the Denison Police Department took to Facebook to address the issue, he alleged that the two officers involved were refused service by an employee and that the restaurant manager, walked away from the situation, by claiming “I don’t get into politics.” Like this had anything to do with politics and not with poor customer service.

“If a business does not want police officers as customers, just let us know,” wrote the Chief on Facebook “There’s no need to curse us and make a scene, just let us know you don’t want us there and we’ll go somewhere else.” Even though there aren’t that many options available in the area especially at night when this happened.
“What really gets my goat with such an incident is that while most of us are sleeping – sleeping!, the officers are out there working hard to keep us safe and when trying to take a break to eat – they face this type of reception from an employee of a local business and management calls it ‘politics’?” continued Burch.

The chief of the police department was gentleman enough to omit the name of the restaurant from his post, as it is not a cop’s duty to boycott businesses, however, local media outlets soon identified the restaurant to be Whataburger, a popular chain restaurant in the Texas area.
By the time the story had hit the news, Whataburger officials promptly acted to right the situation, and in a statement released by one of their spokespersons, they said, “an individual employee acted out of line with Whataburger’s values to treat all customers with respect. We took swift action and this person is no longer employed by us.”

Burch explained that the Whataburger employee started cursing the officers out and was unapologetic about it, she then said she would continue to refuse service to police officers. Burch concerned over the situation would later send a supervisor to talk to the employee, what they found out was that allegedly the cops had beat up her boyfriend and were racists.
Burch immediately addressed the employee’s claim and found out that her boyfriend had indeed been arrested by Denison PD a few weeks prior, but that the arrest was routine and that no punches were thrown and nobody got injured. Maybe the employee just had a more personal vendetta against the police or her boyfriend lied about his arrest.

Fortunately, things didn’t escalate further and Whataburger contacted the affected officials and the whole department to apologize, they did have to take a lecture from the Chief though, but it was all for the best, as the officers handled this situation with exceptional grace and the burger restaurant should be held to the same standards as these officers, forgive and forget folks! Not many stories like this end with both sides satisfied.
