A drunken man in a South Carolina waffle house made the best of his late-night trip to the restaurant when he realized the employee in charge of the place was sound asleep. Speaking with WIS-TV, Alex Bowen said he was hungry and couldn’t sleep so he went to the popular late-night snack waffle house.
Bowen said he waited at the register for 10 minutes before finally realizing something was off. “I walked back outside to look for employees,” Bowen said. “No one in sight. Walked back in and waited a few more minutes and then it was go time.”
When he was back in the establishment and ready to cook, he finally noticed the lone employee dreaming of rainbows and butterflies. Instead of waking the worker from his slumber, Bowen decided he would cook his own dinner, but not without documenting it first.
He took pictures of himself cooking and posted them on Facebook with the caption, “Couldn’t sleep so I went to waffle house….guess what…everyone on shift was asleep.” Bowen’s post went viral and when the waffle house heard of the incident, they suspended the employee for a week and released the following statement.
Our local Division Manager has spoken to Alex and apologized. For safety reasons, our customers should never have to go behind the counter. Rather they should get a quality experience delivered by friendly associates. We are reviewing this incident and will take appropriate disciplinary action. In a related note, obviously Alex has some cooking skills, and we’d like to talk to him about a job since we may have something for him.
“[I] guess old Waffle House just gonna have to take the L on that one,” he told WIS-TV when asked about the restaurant’s statement. “I give all the credit to my old friend vodka. I wouldn’t normally have done that.” He also said he didn’t pay that night but went back the following Thursday to give them a $5 bill.
Although the waffle house wasn’t all too happy about the events that transpired, they basically offered him a job so it shouldn’t be that bad for Alex. His sense of humor even gave the restaurant some free advertisement, telling WIS-TV, “Got hot on the grill with a double Texas bacon cheesesteak melt with extra pickles.
“When I was done I cleaned the grill, collected my ill-gotten sandwich and rolled on out.” He even had the decency to clean up after himself, but in all honesty, he should have at least woken the employee up before leaving the place unattended.
