Dora The Explorer Is Coming To A Theater Near You Courtesy Of Michael Bay

Dora the Explorer is getting her own movie! We repeat – Dora the Explorer is getting her own movie! And who better to produce this paramount film venture than explosions aficionado, lens flare user, and CGI abuser, Michael Bay.

The American film studio Paramount Pictures teamed up with Bay’s production company, Platinum Dunes, to produce the live-action adaptation of the popular children’s series involving a young Mexican girl named Dora. She travels around the world with her talking purple backpack and her monkey friend, Boots.

The Muppets and Neighbors director, Nick Stoller, will be in charge of writing the script for this project. Rumor has it that it will no longer be centered around a 7-year-old girl, but instead, it will feature Dora as a teenager.

The premise will be that she moved into the city to live with her cousin Diego. This way, the children who grew up watching her cartoon can feel like they’ve all grown up into teenhood together.

The idea of doing a Dora the Explorer movie has been baking in the oven since 2015. Tom Wheeler – writer of the Puss in Boots movie – and Mary Parent – the producer of The Revenant and SpongeBob Movie – have been working endlessly to get the project to producers.

But now, with Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes company on board, the Nickelodeon Mexican star will finally be able to come to life. Her adventures will be featured in all their wonderful glory on the silver screen.

No release date for the movie has been announced, of course, but 2019 seems like a tentative year for its screening, according to Paramount. If so, the movie should be going into production anytime in the next couple of months.

While Michael Bay’s company is the one in charge of producing this movie, the filmmaker himself has yet to announce that he will be participating in the project. His partners, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, appear to be the ones who will take on the project.

Hopefully, we will get to see some of Michael’s magic in the finished project. Nothing would be cooler than seeing Dora teaming it up with a couple of Transformers. Fans would love it.

The original cartoon ran on Nickelodeon for fourteen years – between 2000 and 2014 – it followed the adventures of a bilingual Dora that would often break the fourth wall in order to solve puzzles with the audience’s help. How this can be translated into a film is a mystery, but as Latinos, we are all excited to see our icons represented on the big screen.
