Demi Lovato Breaks The Internet With Her Selena Halloween Costume

Selena Quintanilla fever is still going strong, and actress/singer, Demi Lovato, decided to pay homage to the late Queen of Tejano music. She did so by dressing in Selena’s iconic magenta jumpsuit for a Halloween party on Saturday.

The internet exploded with praise for Lovato’s exquisitely executed costume. It consisted of a plum, halter-style, criss-cross, cleavage-baring, bell-bottom jumpsuit, similar to the one that Selena would use to perform live.

To complete the look, Demi also wore a long, dark brown wig, with large bangs and a flaming hot, red lipstick that tied together Selena’s signature look. She often wore a long-sleeve matching bolero over it, too, but Lovato opted to go without it.

Demi Lovato posted pictures and videos of her Halloween look on Snapchat, much to the joy of fans. The look was reminiscent of Jennifer Lopez’s starting role as Selena in the 1997 cult film of the same name.

In the movie, J-Lo wore the exact same outfit at the beginning of the movie. While many were claiming “perfection” of the costume’s execution, others felt that Lovato’s cleavage was a tad too trashy and that it somehow tarnishes the singer’s memory.

They also claim that the singer is using Selena’s popularity to break into the Latino market and that she isn’t Latina enough to wear the costume. Lovato’s late father, to whom the singer has dedicated many songs and even opened a scholarship program in his name, is of Mexican descent.

Despite what the naysayers might say about Lovato’s choice for a costume, it is clear that she does indeed look great in it. It is very touching to see how Selena’s legacy is still so relevant today that it garners attention from contemporary artists.

Demi Lovato is a 25-year-old American pop and r&b singer, songwriter, and actress from Dallas, Texas. Selena was from there, too, so it isn’t really a surprise that the Disney Channel star would be influenced by the Tejano singer, who passed away just a couple of months before Lovato was born.
