Cardi B Carrying The Dominican Hip Hop Torch

Just when Despacito is firing on all cylinders all over the world, another artist with Latina roots is heading to the top of the music charts and she is the Dominican Republic born rapper and reality star known as Cardi B.
The Love & Hip Hop star took everyone by surprise with the release of her single Bodak Yellow and in less than 3 months after its release, the single is now the number one summer anthem that is banging everywhere.

Cardi B has been one of the standout cast members in Love & Hip Hop Atlanta in the last few years and now her smash single has moved to the 8th spot on the Billboard top 100 chart. This came as a surprise to everyone in the music industry and makes her the first cast member of the reality show to have a crack at the top 10 Billboard chart. She is also the first female rapper to have her debut entry on the billboard chart hit the top 10 (Iggy Azalea cracked the chart with Fancy).

Cardi B Huge Love For Her Roots

Cardi B has never hidden her love for her home country, the Dominican Republic, and over the years, even on the show has shown her love for reggaeton, dembow and other local Dominican and Latino sounds. So it didn’t come as a surprise when she showed up at the New York annual Dominican Day Parade to support and celebrate her quisqueyana heritage.

She showed her love for her roots even more as she teased the crowd with the Spanish version of Bodak Yellow and they all went nuts. The remix has a verse from fellow Dominican Republic artist Messiah El Artista, who was also on stage with her to thrill the crowd at the event.

Vibe

This remix falls in line with the Spanish remixes trend as Latino rappers always make Spanish remixes to cater to their fans from Latin America and It is also a great way for them to stay connected with their roots.

Cardi B is one of the hottest artists right now and working with Messiah would definitely boost his career. They worked together with Farruko on the song, Chapi Chapi. The Remix will also give Bodak Yellow more leverage in the Hispanic community and increase the song’s popularity.

She is also already doing great with the mainstream media as Kodak Black is also the highest charting song by a female hip hop artist in over 2 years.

The song is also number two on the streaming songs chart, moving up from number 6 last week and has also moved up 5 spots from No. 20 to 15 on the digital song sales chart. She is also killing it on the radio as the song is now on the 36th spot on the radio songs chart.

It is definitely a great time for Latino artists as Despacito by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee is still holding it down on the number one for the second longest time in the history of the Billboard chart right behind Justin Bieber’s Sorry. The song is also the most viewed song on YouTube.

Cardi B is definitely on her way to the top and with the whole Hispanic community right behind her, she will definitely give Nicki Minaj a run for her money. She got her first BET nomination this year and she will be gunning for more success in her music career in the coming years.
