Bruno Mars agreed to perform on the Latino star-studded lineup for ‘One Voice: Somos Live!’ on Saturday – a festival organized by the relief effort campaign Somos Una Voz that is led by Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony. Performing as part of his 24K Magic World Tour, the new king of pop captivated the Latino public with a beautiful, intimate, Spanish rendition of his hit single, “Just The Way You Are.”
The concert served as a televised fundraising event where proceeds will benefit six aid organizations, including the United Way, UNICEF, Habitat for Humanity, Feeding America, Save the Children and Unidos for Puerto Rico. Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez, who created this alliance of artists, have been working together to bring food, shelter, medicine, power, and communications to victims of natural disasters in Puerto Rico and all around the globe.

Bruno Mars’ video of his performance that day has reached almost 1.8 million views on YouTube since it was uploaded on Saturday. It has over 134,000 likes and almost 9,000 comments of people celebrating the singer for his multiculturalism. It is hard to see this video and not hear some Michael Jackson in his voice, but it is even better because there is that Latino spice that gives it an even better flavor.

Puerto Rico is still in great need of help. Reports about the people drinking from Superfund sites and Donald Trump’s threats to retrieve federal assistance from the island has greatly damaged the spirits of our compatriots in the Caribbean. We should not forget that they too are American citizens and that they need all of our help because, without them, the United States simply wouldn’t be as diverse as it is. There is no denying that the cultural aggregate of Puerto Rico is invaluable.
