It looks like the future of beauty pageants are taking a turn in a different direction. Only a few days ago, Miss Peru 2017 took a courageous stand by creating awareness of the violence that the women in that South American country have to go through daily, when it was time for the contestants to announce their body measurements, they started to provide horrific stats about sexual assault, feminicides, and other forms of violence that women face. Now, some women from Brazil who are participating in a beauty pageant dedicated to finding the nation’s best ‘behind’ are pulling a Lady Gaga in order to protest sexual harassment.

The infamous Miss Bumbum Brazil pageant took place last Monday evening in Sao Paulo, and five of the ladies whose ‘bums’ are competing for the title decided to pose in “beef-kinis” and yes it is exactly what you think, bikinis made out of meat, like the one you get at supermarkets, and in case you’re going in head like “eww that’s gross” remember that meat went into fashion back in the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, when Lady Gaga appeared in an all-meat dress to the ceremony, so don’t knock the beef-kini just because you don’t understand fashion, we’re just kidding, we know it’s weird. The photos of the girls wearing this daring outfits are being used for the official invites of the pageant that is currently in its seventh year.

According to the event organizers, the women protesting spent eight hours on the shoot and are collectively wearing about 110 pounds of beef (makes you wonder if it will all go to waste though), according to SplashNews the pageant officials insist that the message behind the meaty swimwear is “Women are not just a piece of meat,” which is understandable and even noble.

Even though anything that calls attention to such a sensitive subject like sexual assault and harassment goes, people feel that the whole “beef-kini” gimmick is just a publicity stunt, and not because people want to deny the problem that exists with gender violence, but because Miss Bumbum has little credibility in Sao Paulo, mostly because they have been known to go through any controversial lengths to get extra publicity for their events, like the time they offended the Catholic community by making contestants re-enact “The Last Supper” painting by Leonardo Da Vinci.
