Italian Actor Known For Playing Latino Roles Blasts Sanctuary Cities After Steinle Case

On July 2015, Kate Steinle, a well loved 32-year-old medical device sales representative, was hit by a stray bullet. Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, a 45-year-old undocumented Mexican citizen, and multiple-time felon accidentally fired into an unsuspecting crowd on the San Francisco pier.

Before the shooting took place, Garcia Zarate was deported from the United States five times and released from police custody instead of to immigration authorities, according to the sanctuary city rulings of San Francisco. Kate Steinle’s case was a major issue in the immigration debate, taking part in Donald Trump’s campaign trail argument, and mentioned in his acceptance speech.

“Kate’s Law” is a bill creating harsher penalties for repeat illegal entry to the United States and pressuring local cities to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. It got passed by the House of Representatives in June.

Years later, in the wake of Garcia Zarate getting declared not guilty, Antonio Sabato Jr., the Italian-American actor, and model, now running for U.S. Congress, touched on Steinle’s case. This time, it was in order to blast sanctuary city policies.

Sanctuary cities refuse to cooperate with federal authorities in enforcing U.S. immigration law, currently fighting a legal battle with the Justice Department. They are trying to withhold funding from cities that don’t cooperate with immigration authorities.

In an interview with FOX NEWS, Sabato Jr. states:

[Sanctuary cities] are protecting people that are here illegally. We allow a million people to come to our country every single year legally. We shouldn’t change that, we should change the fact that sanctuary cities do not work.

Sabato Jr arrived in the United States years ago with his family. He tweeted about coming to this country, saying, “I am Proud to be an American, we came here legally and done things right, it took time, money effort Sacrifices and so much more. Thank you to my Parents for showing me & my sister what hard work dedication and the American Dream is all about.

The running congressman further proclaims how his “country is never going to be a sanctuary in any shape or form. Over my dead body. It’s never going to happen.” He goes on to strongly support a bill by Republican, Todd Rokita, that would imprison and fine local officials obstructing federal immigration enforcement.

“I know its gonna take some time and a lot of effort, but we can fight this because the American people are fed up,” Sabato stated. “I’m gonna step up put everything on the line and fight for this. The American people are gonna speak up loud and clear.”
