Second Attack

About seven people were injured on Friday, when another car attack was carried in Catalan, and one has reportedly died in the hospital.

The car that was used in the attack overturned and the men quickly shot at by the police as they attempted to launch knife attacks on them.

Although it was initially thought that the attackers had explosive belts on, it was discovered that they were fake after controlled explosives were done.

According to a tourist, Fitzroy Davies, who was caught up in the second attack in Cambrils, the police had to shoot at one of the attackers who taunted him after he got out of the crashed car.

Davies said: “He was taunting, smiling and he carried on walking to the police, and then they gave it to him again, a couple more shots and then he fell to the ground.”

A businessman from New Orleans, who was just arriving in a taxi in Las Ramblas, said: “I heard a crowd screaming. It sounded like they were screaming for a movie star.

I saw the van. It had already been busted on the front. It was weaving left and right, trying to hit people as fast as possible. There were people lying on the ground.”

Kevin Kwast, who is on holiday in Barcelona with his family, said: “I was eating with my family in La Boqueria market very near where the crash occurred.

“Hundreds of people started stampeding through the market… we started running with them going outside right into where casualties were already on the ground.

“Police pushed us into a money transfer shop and we’ve been sheltering there for over an hour.”

The Catalan government revealed that citizens of 24 countries were  either killed or injured in the Las Ramblas attack, the Catalan and a spokesman for the regional government said:

“The alleged terrorists were in an Audi A3 and apparently knocked down several people before coming across a police patrol and a shoot-out ensued.”

Although, the so-called Islamic State have claimed responsibility for the attacks through a statement that was released in which they called the attackers in Barcelona”soldiers” , it is not certain if the men involved have direct links to ISIS or were simply inspired by the group’s activities.

Security operatives are currently carrying out a raid on different locations in Barcelona and all public areas have been cleared to prevent any more attack for the time being.
