Teen Who Fatally Stabbed Classmate After Years Of Bullying Now Suing School District

On September 27th, Abel Cedeno fatally stabbed 15-yeard-old Mathew McCree and critically injured 16-year-old Ariane Laboy. Cedeno says he snapped after years of bullying.

Cedeno said the bullying started in middle school when he grew out his hair and was struggling with his sexuality. He said that made him a target for bullies.

“They used derogatory terms,” Cedeno explained. “‘He’s is a f****t’ or ‘He is gay because he is growing out his hair and has a high pitched voice.'”

Cedeno, 18, told ABC News that he tried to walk away the day of the stabbing, but they wouldn’t stop bullying him. He went to the bathroom to avoid confrontation, but when he came back, they continued.

In a jail interview, he said, “I guess I just snapped, I didn’t mean to kill him.” He also said he tried overdosing on pills the day before the horrible incident.

According to 16-year-old Jomarlyn Colon, who witnessed the incident, the bullies were throwing pens at Cedeno before he snapped. He said that Cedeno demanded to know who threw the pens when Mathew McCree stepped forward.

Colon says Cedeno then quickly pulled out a switchblade and stabbed McCree. Cedeno was released on a bail of $250,000 in November and charged with manslaughter.

The young boy who survived the attack was left with stab wounds and in a coma. Cedeno is filling a lawsuit against the Department of Education, as he said, “nothing really happened” when he reported the bullying since the 6th grade.

After the stabbing, the school installed metal detectors, but it is now permanently closed down. Cedeno is currently awaiting trial for manslaughter.
