Last month, Texas law enforcement found a missing toddler’s body and arrested her adoptive father. Her adoptive mother, Sini Mathews, got arrested this Thursday and charged with child abandonment or endangerment in connection with the 3-year-old’s death.

The little girl, Sherin Mathews, reportedly went missing on October 7th after her father Wesley Mathews put her outside for not drinking her milk. He later admitted to watching Sherin chocking on her milk and to moving her lifeless body to another location.
Wesley Mathews got charged with felony injury to a child after authorities found Sherin’s body in a culvert near her home in Richardson County on October 22nd. According to an arrest affidavit, Sini and Wesley went to a restaurant on October 6th and left Sherin home, placing her in “imminent danger of death, bodily injury, or physical or mental impairment.”

Mathews revealed he left Sherin home because he got frustrated after she wouldn’t drink her milk. He originally told detectives he put Sherin outside their home, next to a tree at around 3 AM, and that she vanished 15 minutes later.
The father later changed his story, saying he “physically assisted” the 3-year-old girl in drinking her milk before she choked and passed away. Wesley Mathews’ bail, set at $1 million, is a lot more than the bail set for Sini Mathews at 250,000.

Sini and Wesley adopted Sherin from India a year ago. They have a biological 3-year-old child who they took to dinner that night of October 6th when Sherin got left home alone and is now in the custody of Child Protective Services (CPS).
Sini says she was sleeping the night of October 7th when Sherin disappeared. She says she was unaware of what took place that night between Wesley and Sherin, and her attorneys continue to stick to the story that Sini had nothing to do with what occurred.

“The time that they left, she was not under the care of any other adult or of any other person, she was left home alone by herself and it’s for that reason that you see this particular charge,” said Kevin Perlich of the Richardson Police Department. “It’s not necessarily related to her death, it’s related to her care that she was being given while she was in that home.”
Wesley and Sini said Sherin was still alive October 6th, but the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office is still working to determine the time and cause of her death. Despite any new information, Sini will probably be charged with leaving her child home alone.
