Find Out What Happened To The Little Girl Who Played Selena In J-Lo’s 1997 Film

As Selena Quintanilla grows into an even bigger icon with each passing day, testimonies and stories revolving the singer start to emerge. Fans grow eager to hear the real deal from first accounts.

For years, people have been wondering what happened to the little girl who played the Tejano music Queen alongside Jennifer Lopez in the 1997 critically acclaimed film, Selena. Where is she now?

Her name, as some of you hardcore fans out there might remember, is Becky Lee Meza. Although she is retired from show business, the little girl did manage to accomplish a lot for herself since landing every young Latina’s dream role at only 10-years-old.

After the film’s release and its huge box office success, Meza was commissioned to release her own album. This was the first time Selena fans heard Meza’s real singing voice, as she lip-synced to the vocals of then-teen sensation, Jennifer Peña, in the movie.

The record was appropriately called, “Vive Tu Sueño,” (Live Your Dream) and it featured a beautiful cover of “Over the Rainbow” in both Spanish and English. Its purpose was to inspire its intended young audience to follow their wildest dreams.

That was pretty much it though. The movie and her record were her last projects inside the business. But she still admits that her role in the movie was a defining moment for both her childhood and career.

Little Meza is now a married mother of four who goes by the name of Becky Burden and lives with her family in Harlingen, Texas. She works her own flower and bridal boutique that just so happens to be adorned with the late singer’s memorabilia, and pictures of her times on the movie set with her costars.

“I truly believe God had other plans for my life,” Meza told Tejano Nation in March 2017. “I feel that I was supposed to experience the filming of the movie and experience the short-lived fame to humble me and just show me a lot of things that I probably wouldn’t have learned, had it not been for the movie.”

Having been inspired by Selena’s graceful spirit, Meza also works as a social worker. In August of 2016, she launched a YouTube channel where she updates fans on her life.
